A few songs I’ve been enjoying a lot of late…
The Yardbirds — “Mister, You’re a Better Man Than I.” Apparently every teen band in 1966 did a version of this one, and hearing the definitive version, you can see why.
The Kreeg — “Impressin.'” One from Albuquerque’s finest.
The Orange Alabaster Mushroom — “Your Face Is In My Mind.” A one-man band from Ottawa, The O.A.M. understands the power of the Vox organ.
The Contrast — “Caught In A Trap.” I’ve liked these guys since their days on Rainbow Quartz (one of my favorite labels). Now they’re on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool label, and still doing fine work.
Steve Barton & The Oblivion Click — “Cartoon Safe.” Steve is probably best known for his work with Translator (If you’re a certain age, you might remember this one.) As a bonus, the drummer is Robbie Rist, whom you might recall as Cousin Oliver from The Brady Bunch, and who is now one of the hardest-working (and funnier) guys in showbiz.
And what have you been listening to lately?
