It’s a Shaggs-tastic World

Long-time readers may recall my fondness for one of the umm… quirkier bands in rock history: The Shaggs. The Gypsy Scholar informs us of a recent NYT article about the pride of Fremont, NH, including the fact that there is apparently a stage musical based on the group.

I would note at this point that if the musical is at all faithful to the band’s work, the drummer’s parts will be obscenely difficult to play — not because of the technical challenges, but because in so many ways, the parts are almost antithetical to the way any “real” drummer has learned to think of the instrument.

In any case, I hope the surviving Shaggs make a comfortable profit from the whole enterprise — they’ve brought me that much in smiles over the years.

  1. Thanks for the link. We seem to share similar interests . . .

  2. One of my favorite bands – it’s impossible to listen to them without a big goofy grin…
