A Wry Observation

When we fill out our tax forms (either quarterly or in the Spring), why do we call those tax returns? We’re not returning anything to the government — they’re taking away stuff that’s ours.

Clearly I need my morning shower. Or medication.

  1. Heh. In Finnish, you send in a “tax notification”, and then if it turns out that you have paid more than you need to, you get back a “tax return”.

  2. The Ancient says:

    Mondo —

Didn’t you get the memo? All that you have is what the government “allows” you to keep.

    Many happy returns, etc.
