Promises, Promises…

The Major’s favorite columnist found the following in an ABC News report:

At a million-dollar San Francisco fundraiser today, President Obama warned his recession-battered supporters that if he loses the 2012 election it could herald a new, painful era of self-reliance in America. [Emphasis mine — Prof. M]

Leaving aside the fact that this was a “recession-battered” crowd at the million-dollar fundraiser (I haven’t even been lightly breaded so far — knock wood — but I’ve never been to a million-dollar fundraiser.), I love the reporter’s evident horror. What’s next? The agony of patriotism? The unceasing torture that is responsibility? Doggone it, can’t you see they just want to save us from our lives?

Meanwhile, Ralph Waldo Emerson was unavailable for comment.

Do you hear me face-palming from over here? He’s saying “self-reliance” like it’s a bad thing….

Megan Mack does claim that the upper crust has really lost some ground in the last coupla years: http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/10/the-1-aint-what-it-used-to-be/247011/

These are not people who will be sleeping under bridges, though.

    I can’t even snark this… it’s so hilariously self-parodying.
