I frequently wander into music backwards; that is to say, I discovered Danzig well before I had ever listened to the Misfits, ELP before Crimson or the Nice, that sort of thing. Likewise, back in 1990 I picked up a CD on a lark, primarily because the song titles made me laugh, and also because I recognized the guitarist’s name from a guilty pleasure band of mine. The CD in question was the only release from Manitoba’s Wild Kingdom, and from that I backtracked and discovered the magnificence that was the Dictators.
Well, bands come and go, and the Wild Kingdom was essentially a one-shot deal, but that one 25-minute CD still makes me happy, so it’s cool. But so is this. Handsome Dick Manitoba (who is also a staple of my evening listening to LSUG) has a new project, known simply as Manitoba, and including everyone from Wild Kingdom but Andy “Adny” Shernoff.
The group made an appropriate debut this weekend, gigging at a New Jersey bowling alley. See the gig report (and video) here. Welcome back, kids.
