Sometimes It’s Just Too Easy…

The Major (Ret.) just tweeted and Facebooked a report that Capital One denied an atheist’s request for an Atheist symbol on a personalized card. This is apparently problematic because a variety of religious symbols (most notably Christian and Jewish symbols) are available on these cards.

Well, I know you’re not supposed to take the easy ones, but I couldn’t resist. I added the following comment:

Of course the banks love Jesus. Jesus saves.

“Jesus saves. Passes to Gretzky, Gretzky shoots… HE SCORES!!!!

    And the crowd goes wild.”

Yep — I think I first heard that one in the late 80s. Kind of like the one about Jesus and Satan in the programming contest. There’s a power outage and Satan loses all his work, but Jesus can just restore his because… well, you know. Thanks for dropping by!

It’s been updated over the years, for each generation. When I was a small boy, it went:

Jesus saves – and ESPOSITO SCORES ON THE REBOUND!

There are also T-shirts of Our Lord in full keeper’s gear, making the classic kick-save.

On the topic at hand… well, what exactly would an atheist symbol be? A universal no circle? The giant red A is a nice nod to ol’ Hester Prynne, I suppose.
