Another Saturday Night…

I made a trip to Real City today, and interspersed between the hellish traffic jams, I picked up a copy of the new Rush album, Clockwork Angels. As I sat becalmed in traffic, I gave it a spin. My initial take is that it’s pretty good, and Geddy’s bass work carries the album. Perhaps I’ll have more to come — it’s a concept album, but since I was sitting on the Interstate, I figured it was poor form to read the lyric sheet while driving, even if I wasn’t going anywhere.

I’m also kicking around a story idea, and got to play with it a little while I burned a quarter-tank of gas. And how was your day?

  1. We challenged the NoVa traffic down 95 to go get some Lebron shoes for the Madpup. The heat and the power outages made for some difficult traffic. We count ourselves fortunate not to be among the 2 mil without power. We are also hosting a sleepover tonight spurred in part by a loss of power at our guest’s home.

I was out yesterday morning in similar traffic in Montgomery County, Maryland. Nearly all of the lights at major intersections were out, and trees were blocking entire roads. I haven’t seen this much damage in the area since Hurricane Isabel blew through in 2003. Like the Major, though, I’m one of the lucky ones with electricity and AC this weekend, thanks to buried power lines…

Well, the jams down here were just a combination of folks filling the highways to/from the coast and the added bonus of pre-holiday driving. Add one accident and presto! An 11-mile (I’m not exaggerating) backup.
