The CD player in my car has tapped out on me, which means that my only options for music as I drive around Mondoville are the college radio station (still in wall-to-wall Christmas mode), the Mondoville AM station (too much beach music — NOT the same as surf music. Don’t make me come over there.), the Fleshtones CD that was in the player when it bailed on me, or humming really loudly.
So, after a quick consultation with the Chancellor of the Exchequer (or as some call her, Mrs. M), I decided to start looking for a replacement. I don’t want anything fancy — just an AM/FM/multi-CD rig, as I’d like to be able to drive longer distances without changing discs. And it turns out that last part is a problem. I went to both of Mondoville’s car audio shops (which appear to be doing bigger business in custom wheels/rims than in audio), only to be told that no one does multi-CD units for cars anymore. I asked why, and was told that they’ve apparently been obsoleted by mp3s, and so it’s either one CD at a time or nothing. “But CDs sound better than mp3s,” I said. Shrug. Vox pop and all that.
Once again, I find myself out of step. All the same, I’ll go ahead and get my current unit replaced soon — I like the Fleshtones, but there are limits.
