First Things‘s Matthew Schmitz comments on an interesting inaugural sidelight. The hat that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wore to yesterday’s inauguration was modeled after the one worn by St. Thomas More in the famous Holbein portrait.

The hat was a gift from the St. Thomas More Society of Richmond, VA. Schmitz comments:

Wearing the cap of a statesman who defended liberty of church and integrity of Christian conscience to the inauguration of a president whose policies have imperiled both: Make of it what you will.
