QotD: Definition Edition

Today’s QotD comes from J.D. Tuccille at Reason, who has observed that some Connecticut pols believe the feds should pay to have Sandy Hook Elementary demolished and rebuilt, because Congress didn’t pass more stringent gun laws in the shooting’s aftermath. (Yeah, I know — I think it involves a flux capacitor.)

In the course of Tuccille’s blog post, he offers a definition of politicians that I think is particularly useful in view of things like the IRS scandal, and that brings us to our quote:

[I]f [politicians] weren’t arrogant and even a bit monstrous they wouldn’t be in a profession that exists to threaten people with fines and prison for refusing to bend to their will.
