In Which the Spawn Overthinks It…

After school today, the Spawn and I were chatting, and the conversation turned to comic characters (as I believe it does in all houses). The subject of Lex Luthor came up.

“So Lex Luthor is a billionaire genius, right?” she asked.

“That seems to be the current continuity, yes.”

“And he runs LexCorp?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“But when you look around Metropolis, it looks like our world — except for more guys in tights.”

“Yeah.”

“So what great thing has Lex done or invented that earned him all that money?”

“Well, it would have to be pretty nefarious. So I’m thinking hedge funds.”

You should not underestimate the lucrative power of the misuse of a doctorate in English.

He is quite the rhetorician, isn’t he? Perhaps he made his money as the true author of the humor columns in Reader’s Digest, specializing in “Humor in Uniform”, which paid more for anecdotes than did “Laughter, the Best Medicine” or “Life in These United States.”
