From the Sunshine Coast to the Midlands

The coach of our women’s basketball team is from Australia, as are more than a few of his recruits. One of my former responsibilities here in Mondoville was to operate as a sort of liaison between the athletic and academic ends of the college, and that meant that I used to proctor tests on NCAA rules. The coaches take these tests each year, and they have to pass them before they are allowed to recruit.

As it happened, the first time Coach Page took the test here, I was the proctor, and knowing he was from Australia, I told him, “When in doubt, ask yourself, ‘What would Doc Neeson do?’. The answer will likely involve lager.”

Sean’s face lit up: “You know who Doc Neeson is?”

So I sang a little of this (Doc is the lead singer.):

We got on fine after that, and I’ve enjoyed going to games throughout his tenure. Score one for the power of hard rock.

Meanwhile, a local sportswriter has taken a look at our Antipodean hoopsters, which you may find here. Check it out.
