My Cousin, the Beast

Jack Dunn is my cousin, and the eldest of my generation of the family, a couple of years ahead of me. He’s an airline pilot, and also one of the more talented musicians I know. Well, it’s that latter part I’m hyping today.

Quebecois/US guitar manufacturer Godin has sponsored an interesting contest. They released an ad containing a set of chords, specifically “BEGGED4 FAME2 BE A G0D2 A DAmE” (a bit cheesy, but hey, I’m a drummer. What do I know?). Entrants had to take those chords (which they could arrange in any order) and create/perform an original composition, which had to include guitar work. So Jack headed into his home studio and came up with the following. Check it out.

As usual, I’m torn between familial pride and the annoying reminder that I really don’t have that many skills. But seriously — cool song.

As usual, Jack has never left me unimpressed. He is Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai all rolled into one, with a bit of Beck and Donald Roeser on the side.
