Talk About Extended Plays…

I only went to one prom — although I was a sophomore, my girlfriend was a junior, and we went to hers in 1981. The venue at which it was held, the Drawbridge Inn in Ft. Mitchell, KY (where I also once saw Blue Öyster Cult and Nazareth with the Mad Dog) is currently being demolished, and will be replaced by a medical office complex. Along the way, however, they’re finding some unusual detritus. For example, they’ve unearthed what appears to be about an 8-foot-diameter replica of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze.” Problematically, the replica appears to be of a 33 1/3 record, rather than the 45 “single” format, but I’ll just assume it was the dance mix.

I don’t know what will become of the “record”, but I hope it doesn’t wind up in a landfill — it seems too cool for such a fate.
