Adventageous Reading

As has become something of a tradition, Mondoville College is posting daily Advent devotionals from members of the campus community. Once again, I have agreed to supply a couple of installments. Here’s the one I wrote for today.

Advent Devotional 1 Dec 14

“Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.” – Psalms 80:3 (KJV)

Life is disorienting sometimes. That’s certainly no surprise in the midst of finals, in the scrambles of the Christmas season, or in a world that too often seems more chaotic each day than it was the day before. When we’re disoriented, it’s easy to crash, or at least to become more lost than we already were.

But we all know the sense of relief that comes when we finally spot a landmark and the world snaps back into place. There are few comforts like the comfort of knowing where you are when you weren’t sure before. That’s the promise of this Psalm, and the promise of Advent. God is at hand, and is coming into our very midst, and once we see Him, we’ll know which way to go. We’ll know our direction home.

Heavenly Father, let Your face shine upon us once again, the beacon leading us in Your direction, and thank You for the gift of Your Son, the light that will not fade. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
