(For the title reference, go here.)
I’m relaxing in Myrtle Beach with the Spawn, Mrs. M, and some of her family, and having the proverbial lovely time. Our room overlooks the ocean, and today I spent a fair amount of time in the water, both salt and heavily chlorinated varieties. Sunburn level: moderate.
I’ve always liked being around large bodies of water — the ocean, the Great Lakes — and since Mondoville is a mere three-hour drive, I should really come this way more often. I also find pleasure in the silly tourist attractions and greasily lethal boardwalk venue food, both of which this town has in abundance. Tomorrow, I may try to make it to a local frappuccino preserve, in addition to more wave watching and french-fry consumption.
Although the waves don’t get too high on this side of the continent, I’ve been listening to a lot of surf music for the trip, both beforehand and since our arrival — indeed, even as I type this post. Of course, I’ve had ulterior motives as well. The 24-hour stream at Surf Rock Radio has added the Berries to their rotation, and this gave me the pleasant experience of looking out at the waves while hearing myself on streaming radio. There’s a lot of other good stuff on there as well, so if you’re fond of reverb-drenched thrash and twang, you should give them a listen.
