And Suddenly, A Road Trip

Greetings from Terpville, and I wasn’t expecting it either.

You’ll recall that the Spawn and Squeeze came to the Mid-Century Mondohaus for Yuletide cheer, and it was good. Except…

… They flew Southwest, so not only was their return flight canceled, there really wasn’t much of a backup option, at least by air. If only there were someone with free time and a new car.

So that’s how the girls loaded up on Dramamine and crawled into the backseat of the Blue Meanie while I got to deploy my new premium Spotify account and Sirius XM programming. And I needed all of it, as we spent ten hours making our way up here, seventeen of which were spent between Fredericksburg, VA and here. There was so much stop-and-go traffic that I could have used a dose of what the young people were having, and by the time I got them to their place and made it to my nearby hotel, I was headachy and bloodshot of eye.

I get to reverse the process tomorrow, with the added bonus of New Year’s Eve traffic as well. But today was a bonus day with the kids. We picked up the Spawn’s wheels at the airport this morning, and then I took a jaunt to see the apartment to which they’ll be moving in a couple of months, and then bought some boxes for that move. Then I took the ladies back home, and left to my own devices, I picked up a 4-pack of a very nice root beer made nearby, watched a little football, and then swung by a Chinese buffet that Mrs. M and I enjoy when we’re in town. From there to here, and so to this.

It wasn’t what I was expecting for part of my break, but I’m glad to have picked up a little more time with the Spawn and Squeeze, and I’m thankful to have been able to help my kid and her intended. And I sure am glad I have good music for all this driving.
